Dusk

Navy clouds dragged through the sky,
maples honeycombed against the horizon.
It is a cold moon
that shines into the hollow in the grass,
but there is no body heat left to steal.

Two sets of footprints,
imprinted in crushed soybeans,
lead away from the hollow.

They point in opposite directions.
